Methodology

The 5-step verification process

  1. Identify the claim. Restate it in one sentence, with the original source.
  2. Gather primary sources. Official documents, peer-reviewed research, named experts.
  3. Triangulate. At least three independent sources, plus a counter-position where one exists.
  4. Apply the verdict. Map evidence to the published verdict scale.
  5. Publish with sources. Every source is listed by author, title, publication, date and URL.

The verdict scale

  • True — Evidence supports the claim.
  • Mostly True — Evidence supports the claim, with minor caveats.
  • Mixed — Evidence partly supports and partly contradicts the claim.
  • Mostly False — Evidence contradicts the claim, with minor truths.
  • False — Evidence contradicts the claim.
  • Unverified — Insufficient evidence to verdict.
